I love destination weddings!!! Such weddings are often less structured and offer multiple day/venue location portrait options. This was my first trip to Puerto Rico after having captured distant weddings at Lake Tahoe, Cancun, Cabo and all over the United States.Today I captured Jessica and Ryan’s destination wedding in Puerto Rico. I was looking forward to capturing their wedding after meeting with them in DC last year for their engagement. This was my fourth destination wedding after my Lake Tahoe wedding in 2015, Cancun wedding in 2016 and Cabo San Lucas wedding in 2017.

Condado Vanderbilt: Luxurious Romance by the Ocean
Following the heartfelt ceremony, the celebration continued at the Condado Vanderbilt, a luxurious oceanfront venue that seamlessly combines modern elegance with Old World charm. This five-star hotel, dating back to 1919, has been a beacon of opulence in Puerto Rico, hosting celebrities and dignitaries over the years.
The Condado Vanderbilt’s rich history is interwoven with the island’s cultural tapestry, making it an ideal choice for a destination wedding. Its expansive ballrooms, breathtaking ocean views, and meticulous attention to detail provided an exquisite setting for Jessica and Ryan’s reception. The couple’s choice to host their celebration at Condado Vanderbilt was not only a nod to luxury but also a tribute to Puerto Rico’s grand hospitality.
Destination Wedding photographers played a crucial role in capturing the opulence and romance that filled the air at Condado Vanderbilt. The photographers’ lenses became a storyteller, weaving together the threads of joy, laughter, and love that defined Jessica and Ryan’s evening of celebration.
Catedral Metropolitana San Juan Bautista: A Historical Haven for Love
The rich history of Catedral Metropolitana San Juan Bautista set the stage for Jessica and Ryan’s sacred vows. Nestled in the heart of Old San Juan, this cathedral stands as a testament to Puerto Rico’s colonial past. Originally constructed in 1521, the cathedral has witnessed centuries of history, surviving fires, hurricanes, and reconstruction efforts.
Its Gothic Revival architecture, intricate stained glass windows, and imposing façade provided an awe-inspiring backdrop for the couple’s union. The ceremony unfolded within the hallowed walls of this iconic structure, where Jessica and Ryan exchanged vows, surrounded by the echoes of centuries past.
To immortalize the magic of this historic moment, Destination Wedding photographers expertly navigated the centuries-old architecture, capturing the couple’s emotions against the timeless beauty of Catedral Metropolitana. Their lenses transformed fleeting moments into everlasting memories, preserving the essence of Jessica and Ryan’s love within the storied walls of the cathedral.
San Juan National Historic Site: Capturing Timeless Moments
To immortalize the joyous spirit of their destination wedding, Jessica and Ryan chose the San Juan National Historic Site for their post-ceremony portraits. This UNESCO World Heritage Site encompasses a series of fortifications and walls that once defended Puerto Rico from maritime invasions.
After the ceremony we looked to take pictures around San Juan. As everyone who’s been to San Juan knows, there are two absolutes in Puerto Rico. First, the traffic is always a problem and the gale force winds are omnipresent. So we were limited in our portrait selection because of the major traffic jan despite allowing 2 hours for pictures between ceremony and reception. We arrived at San Juan National Historic Site and walked to El Morro a distance of 1/4 mile. That is one way and is shown in yellow on the map. The trip was well worth it as we captured some iconic images with the large bridal party and Jessica and Ryan.
On the way back to the hotel we stopped at Old San Juan and captured unique cobblestone images and colorful buildings with Jessica and Ryan.
The cobblestone paths, historic cannons, and expansive views of the Atlantic Ocean provided a captivating backdrop for the couple’s portraits. Destination Wedding photographers skillfully utilized the unique blend of natural and historical elements to create visually stunning images that encapsulated the essence of Jessica and Ryan’s love against the backdrop of Puerto Rico’s storied past.
Jessica and Ryan, congratulations on your Puerto Rico destination wedding day! It was truly an honor to capture your special moments and be a part of your celebration. Thank you for allowing me to share in your joyous occasion.
